The Guardian of Transformation

Dear Friend,
The Ancients believed that the movement of the planets contained coded messages from the gods which, if interpreted correctly, could attune man with his Divine nature and allow more Light to enter the Earth plane.
Current planetary energies are conspiring to encourage us to get clear about our destiny. All through November, transformational Pluto is aligning with the Dharmic North Node in Capricorn, a powerful synergy that occurs approximately every eighteen years. The urgent message encoded in this configuration is: It’s time for each of us to let go of any regrets or nostalgia for what is past (Karmic South Node in Cancer) and focus our attention on investing passionately in what truly gives meaning and value to our life.
Figuring out what your destiny is—in other words, your soul’s mission, assignment or purpose—can be confusing because we all have a minor destiny, a major destiny and an ultimate destiny.
Our minor destiny involves resolving karmic debts that are ripe to be healed in this incarnation. This can involve letting go of habitual mental and emotional patterns within ourselves that no longer serve our highest good, as well as paying in full, to the best of our abilities, family or relationship duties and obligations.
Unwinding our personal karma is a foundation step that cannot be skipped if we’re committed to allowing our higher soul purposes to flower. And, this leg of the trip can take upwards of 58-60 years, culminating in our second Saturn return cycle of karmic review.
Therefore, the key is to cultivate a higher perspective that allows us to remain cognizant of whatever point we’re at in our life’s journey so that we can pace ourselves. This allows us to nurture one of the most important character traits: the soul quality of patience. Ego-level impatience clouds our vision and makes it harder to intuit when it’s time to make our move. Then, we tend to get ahead of our Selves and waste energy spinning our wheels.
In the Taoist tradition, pacing ourselves means that we are aware enough to know that the Universe will always signal us synchronistically when it’s our move and, until then, we can allow ourselves to relax into the Flow and enjoy the ride.
Added to this, it’s imperative that the tone of fulfilling our personal dharma or path must be one that is free of resentment or self-pity. This is especially challenging as many of us are dealing with body karma (for more on this, please read: “Why Is This Happening to Me?”) or heavy family or financial responsibilities as part of our pre-entry soul agreements. To assist you in embracing your personal karma and recommitting to the path of fulfilling all levels of your destiny, here’s an exercise I use with clients:
1. Close your eyes. Imagine that you’re standing at a crossroads. On one side, is the path that you’re now on of diligently showing up for your obligations to self and others—and, on the other side, is the path of running away from it all.
2. Like your watching a movie on the screen in your mind’s eye, fast-forward this other path of “freedom” for at least seven years in the probabilities. Then, look back at the responsibilities you left behind at the crossroads. Do you have any regrets for harms you caused or anything left unsaid, undone or unhealed?
3. Once you can see and feel that this other path is the shadow path—because it doesn’t have as much Light on it to feed your soul—you can more consciously and whole-heartedly recommit to your personal dharma with a renewed sense of meaning and purpose.
The equation for this is: To the degree that I take full responsibility for how I choose to respond to my circumstances===to this degree am I free within my conditions.
While we’re working on balancing our personal karma, we also need to simultaneously be developing the gifts and talents that will fuel our primary soul purpose. In fact, many times our experiences of wounding, abuse or addiction become the accelerant in the alchemical cauldron that reveals the course of our major destiny.
By cracking our hearts open wider to allow more Light in, playing out our karma sets the stage for fulfilling our mission as healers, helpers, or being of service in a multitude of ways—sometimes even in disguise.
How do we know for sure that we’re on the path of our major destiny? Here are some criteria to consider as confirming factors:
I. We regularly experience satisfaction and contentment with our lot in life—or, at least, have had tastes, touches or glimpses of these feelings.
II. Our passion for what we’re doing gives us the life-enhancing energy that makes us want to get up in the morning with a smile—or, at least, makes us want to get up.
III. We are consistently—or at least cyclically—stretching and growing and evolving through our inner and outer work on this path.
What about our ultimate destiny? All souls are destined—sooner or later—to experience merging with Source as Co-Creators—and many of us have had glimpses of this state from time to time. But for this ultimate merger to be realized with no return to lesser states, all levels of personal karma must first be fully played out. For more on this, please read:
