When I meditated on the major themes of 2014, the download I received was not my usual mix of planetary, galactic and cosmic channeled information. Instead, I kept getting a non-stop loop of the Eagles’ song Hotel California that would just not go away. When I FINALLY surrendered and googled the lyrics, they all spoke to me, but especially:
“This could be Heaven or this could be Hell.
Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said “We are all just prisoners here, of our own device”
And in the master’s chambers,
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can’t kill the beast
Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
“Relax, ” said the night man,
“We are programmed to receive.
You can check-out any time you like,
But you can never leave!”

Those of you who follow my newsletters know that my philosophy is: There are infinite levels of heaven and hell—all right here and right now—and we get to choose which floor on the elevator of consciousness we want to get off on. (Except, of course, as Woody Allen says in one of his movies, the level of hell where lawyers go, as that is already full up :))
One of my favorite quotes on this is by Viktor Frankl, psychiatrist and Auschwitz survivor: “The last of human freedoms—the ability to choose one’s attitude in a given set of circumstances.” I encourage you to check out his masterpiece: Man’s Search for Meaning—especially if you could really use an attitude adjustment just about now.
As for the rest of the lyrics, if we replace “Hotel California” with “earth plane” and “night man” with “Lord of Karma,” we end up with a pretty succinct (and catchy) explanation of the karmic law of return.

Without doubt, the major theme of 2014 is: “The Quickening”—which I define as the continuous and unrelenting acceleration of planetary, galactic and cosmic energies heralding in the next Great Age in the evolution of consciousness. And, while I’ve been writing about the quickening since 2009, we’re presently in the midst of such an unprecedented surge of higher frequency waves bombarding the Earth Plane—that I’m sure everyone reading this has been feeling it enough to be wondering: “What the f**k is going on—and when is it going to let up?”
Well, like the song says, we can “check out,” (i.e. try to distract ourselves or ignore the quickening), but there really is no escape, nowhere else to go—especially once we get the heaven/hell thing. In fact, these energies show no sign of ever slowing down again.
So, for all of you who’ve been asking me for years, “When’s it gonna end?” My gleeful response, as it has been and will continue to be, is: “NEVER!” (Feel free to borrow my smile, until you have one of your own).
So, how do we make the most of the quickening of 2014? Well, if we pay too much attention to earth changes and other signs of planetary instability and the fear-based responses to these in the mass consciousness (which is always the lowest and slowest vibrational frequency), we can be sure that we’re majorly focused in the direction that is diametrically opposed to where we need to be if we’re interested in awakening.
For example, as Uranus, The Cosmic Trickster of Awakening, stations direct in warrior Aries on December 17th, we’ll be feeling as if Life is applying the pedal to our mettle with no breaks in sight. In fact, with Uranus in the midst of a challenging dance with the powerful force of Pluto until 2015, we’ll continue to witness an accelerating destruction of the old order to allow for a new cycle of co-creation more aligned with Unity consciousness. During this period, inner stability is ever more crucial as Divine order-ly chaos on the planet will be escalating dramatically.
Uranus’s function is to agitate anything—internally and externally—that has become too safe, secure, rigid or stagnant. His energy awakens our Divine yearnings and disturbs our complacency with the conditioning of society. He uses the shock of crisis, chaos and emergency situations to “encourage” us to remember who we really are and why we’re really here. The Earth is going to get shaken up more than ever before, with an exponential increase in impactful events—such as earthquakes, hurricanes and tsunamis—becoming the “new normal.” In our personal reality, additional externals and parts of our ego/little selves will continue to fall away, especially if they’re impediments to our illumination.
Leonard Cohen’s lyric, “There is a crack, a crack in everything—that’s how the Light gets in,” is especially poignant and pertinent now as there’s gonna be a whole lotta Light coming in: More cracks in the culture, political systems, infrastructure, as well as cracks in our beliefs and in our bodies.
And while the natural human response to chaos, instability and insecurity is fear, worry, and anxiety all arising from the survival instinct in our animal nature—(i.e. “We just can’t kill the beast”)—it becomes ever more important to remember that whatever we feared last year—usually issues of money, love, work or health—are probably not the exact same ones we’re wringing our hands over today.
In fact, while fear triggered by our lower nature may never go away completely, I’ve found it exceedingly helpful to view this instinctual arising as a perennial shell game run on cosmic trickster energy—meaning, if it’s not one thing that triggers fear, it’s another—and the focus of the anxiety just keeps moving around. The only solution when any variety of fear arises—from dread or panic to the subtler forms of apprehension or trepidation—is to choose to witness it arising and dissolving—in every moment as needed—and not get fixated on playing the shell game at all.
Instead, as we view unfolding events—no matter how tumultuous—we can choose to stay calm, stable and compassionate at our core of Being by holding the faith that everything is unfolding perfectly in the Divine Plan for our personal soul growth as well as for the evolution of consciousness. (Feel free to borrow my faith—until you have some of your own.)
A human incarnation is like the ultimate multi-dimensional rollercoaster ride and, no matter how circuitous and death-defying it may feel, it always ultimately leads to the same destination: We get to drop our bodies without losing our Higher Minds. And, not only is physical death absolutely safe, it’s also the only thing in life that’s absolutely certain. That being said, why do we all waste so much of our precious time worrying, when we could be fully savoring each moment’s potential for expanding our awareness of joy in Being?
In 2014 and beyond, as we witness more divine order-ly chaos on the mass playing field, we’re being given the opportunity to step up the level of our game with the assistance of the quickening. Here are my personal reminders to support this upgrade in consciousness:
I. Always maintain the witnessing perspective, which allows me to never take anything personally, no matter what is going on.
II. Keep in mind the deepest secret of Tantra: accept everything just as it is in the moment. Resistance creates suffering. Here’s a practice: 1) Lean into the pain, desire, sadness or whatever is arising. 2) Become one with it until it consumes and dissolves you. 3) Experience being reborn from the ashes . . . and smiling.
III. The Flow of Life is not under my control; my true power lies in how I choose to respond and move with it.
IV. If I go for healing and growth in any situation and simultaneously enjoy the ride, I’ll have no regrets later.
In closing, I think it’s helpful to keep in mind that we’re only on the threshold of the next Great Age in the sign of Aquarius, which will last for over 2000 years. And that the higher frequency galactic energies bombarding us—while necessary to kick-start this next stage in the evolution of human consciousness—are also playing havoc with all levels of our bodies—from the psychic to the physical. We are all evolutionary guinea pigs in the vanguard of this New Age.
Some of the side-effects of this intense download of energies include: overtaxed nervous systems, strained psychic circuitry, disturbed sleep, overactive dream states, unexplainable fatigue and exhaustion, feelings of structural instability and pain, irrational anxiety and brain fog.
